Hi Tunney, thanks for the question. Heart rate variability is measured as the time difference in adjacent heart beat intervals as you breathe in and out, so the unit is milliseconds (ms).

Although HRV values are somewhat personal, HRV tends to decrease with age and increase with fitness, so in the scale I created for ithlete, 100 would likely be someone who is very athletic. I have seen numbers in the mid 90s from very fit athletes, but also numbers in the high 60s/70s from competitive sports people. On the other hand, someone who is out of shape or stressed might measure in the high 40s / low 50s. What matters in daily training is that day's value compared to your recent average (the fat blue line). That difference is where the traffic light colours come from.

Posted to: HRV value Show Thread | Post Reply

I know that the HRV value is scored out of 100 - but what does the actual number mean?
What would a reading of 100 mean?
What would a reading of 0 mean?

I suppose I'm asking is there a unit assigned to number.

Posted to: HRV value Show Thread | Post Reply
