Does anyone have any tips on where to keep your iPhone while running? Breast pocket would probably be the best, but don't have any shirts that have one.

I'm having some issues with lost signal and inaccurate readings on my runs. And also been wondering should I have the receiver facing my body or away from my body (the side with the text)?

It works perfectly if I'm using a treadmill or elliptical since I can put it on a cupholder or something and keep the receiver facing my belt, but haven't had great success outdoors.

Thanks!

Posted to: Recording heart rate while exercising Show Thread | Post Reply

find this REALLY useful in gym
Use with concept2 rower and with spinning bicycle
Both in instructed classes.
Can see HR response to changes in effort, e.g. on rower in 20 mins with, e.g. instructed fast stroke rate for 2 mins followed by slow stroke rate for 1 min etc.
Or on byke: 60 rpm on hihg load v 125 rpm on low load
Can also monitor recovery, minimum Hr and max HR

this is useful even for 3 day/week fitness person, as well as for elite athlete
best

diana

Posted to: Recording heart rate while exercising Show Thread | Post Reply

Hi Alan

Yes, it has. And from now on we are only shipping this new receiver with the headphone socket, so anyone buying ithlete will get a receiver compatible with the ithlete HRM app.

We will also be selling the receiver separately within a couple of weeks from this site.

Simon.

Posted to: Recording heart rate while exercising Show Thread | Post Reply

We released the HRM app in the UK first, and I want to add a couple of features before releasing it in the US.
Most important is the ability to create an hrm file, that can be uploaded onto the RunKeeper website so that users can track heart rate as well as the speed, distance and elevation they get from the GPS app.

We are also making a chart tab so users can see the progress of their heart rate over the entire exercise session, both in real time and when reviewing the workout afterwards.

I have been testing the RunKeeper compatibility for the past 3 weeks. It works very well - you can see for instance exactly on the map where you stopped for traffic at a busy road, and your heart rate fell!

We hope to submit to Apple before the end of next week, so I apologise for the delay, but I think you will find the new features worthwhile.

Simon.

Posted to: Recording heart rate while exercising Show Thread | Post Reply

Yes, it would use a similar receiver, so it will be accurate, but will have a longer range and will include a headphone socket so you can listen to music. It's being tested right now and I hope it will be available in a couple of months.

Posted to: Recording heart rate while exercising Show Thread | Post Reply

Hi there,

That sounds like great news, I thought you might have been on the case in getting a nice app and heart rate monitor during exercise working, as I am not sure if anything else exists. I know some are out there that use the microphone, to monitor your heart rate, but I think I am just a bit sceptical how that could work, but being able to monitor heart rate and produce graphs of results of exercise and past periods of exercise would be ideal, including calrories.

How far are you off releasing smoething like this? And would you be using similar (maybe something with larger range to pick up heart strap readings while exercising) receiver to be able to catch data from a heart rate monitor?

I would use it while running, cycling, skipping, and any other exercise I would do, and then definately for the HRV readings too.

Cheers

Posted to: Recording heart rate while exercising Show Thread | Post Reply

Hi there Silverfox

ithlete was designed specifically for use at close range for HRV measurements, where you need to be very careful about a good quality signal & no interference.

We're in the late stages of preparing an HRM app that can be used during exercise, will have a normal HRM range and will give good quality personal training zone info & calorie calculations.
It will store sessions and lap times to a log that can be browsed later.

- and it will have really good power consumption so it does not drain your iPhone battery!

What kind of training would you use it in? any other features the community sees as valuable?

Posted to: Recording heart rate while exercising Show Thread | Post Reply

Hi there all,

I like the idea of this device/app but just wnodered if this can be used during exercise? If so is there an app that can be used to monitor heart rate during exercise, so other calculations can be made like calories burned, what region heart rate is in, like cardio or fat burning etc. I read somewhere the device only has a range of 8"?

Cheers

Posted to: Recording heart rate while exercising Show Thread | Post Reply
